I've noticed some strange things about streaming media. As members of MediaCloud know, we've recently upgraded our streaming infrastructure, which has made aspects of our user experience markedly better. Before this, when a user clicked "Play your media" a player program on the viewer's device or browser would begin a progressive download of the media file. The file would begin playing before the entire file was downloaded, but there was still a longish delay before playing started and another delay if the file was scrubbed to a point in the middle.
